WHO IS THIS TRAINING FOR?

- Those interested in personal development
- Those interested in acquiring skills to be better listeners
- Those interested in applying to serve as future lay counselors
REQUIREMENTS:
- Be required to attend and participate in BOTH weekend sessions.
- Be required to read the two texts as well as be able to articulate some of the basics of
- counseling theory as it is integrated with biblical truth.
- Participate in live exercises designed to model and reinforce effective listening, responding and summarizing skills.
- Learn the basics of short-term counseling and crisis intervention, as well as be able to discern when referrals are necessary or mandated.
FEE $160 (Returnees: $80) fee includes dinner for Thursday and Friday trainings, and light breakfast and a lunch for Saturday trainings. Binders with notes and materials are also included. We will accept payments, however the TOTAL FEE for the two session training is payable in full prior to May 6.
REQUIRED READING Purchase and read prior to first weekend:
- “Healing for Damaged Emotions” by David Seamands (Chapters 1-3)
- “How People Grow” by Cloud & Townsend (Chapters 1-9)
Book of John (In Your Bible) (a limited number of books are available for purchase at First Covenant Church - $10 per book/per person)

ABOUT THE TRAINER Cyndi Telander is a licensed Clinical Psychologist who graduated with her Ph.D. from Rosemead School of Psychology at Biola University. She has worked in a number of clinical settings during the past twelve years, including inpatient treatment programs, community and church counseling centers and high schools.
Prior to relocating to Northern California, Cyndi taught for seven years as an adjunct faculty member in the undergraduate psychology program at Biola University. Along with teaching, she was a Staff Therapist at the Bilola Counseling Center.
Cyndi's wonderful sense of humor and passion for helping others are evident in her teaching style. She is married to Jim, who is also a clinical psychologist. They have three children.
