Let's start by defining an unreached people group: Any ethnic or linguistically distinct culture that does not have a viable indigenous community of believing Christians.
Now let's consider some statistics:
There are still more than 600 unreached people groups with a population of over 100,000 in the world today.
About 300 of those unreached people groups are in the nation of India. Many are Muslim.
Only about 1/2 of 1% of funds given to evangelical churches in the US go to these unreached people groups.
Less than 10% of missionaries currently on the field are working among unreached people groups.
According to size, First Covenant is in the top 2% of churches in the US.
And now reflect on the words of Jesus:
MARK 16:15 NIV
He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.
LUKE 12:48 NIV
From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.
Our Premise
God has greatly blessed our First Covenant family and we have the resources available to us to adopt one of the unreached people groups of India. We will commit to this task until we see a church-planting movement take root among them.
Our Strategy
Recruit, develop and nurture a Church-Based Team who will move and live among members of the unreached people group, to develop relationships with them in order to share the Good News of Jesus. We are partnering with Frontiers, a missions organization specializing in engaging Muslim unreached people groups.
Our Starting Points
Pray for the identification of this unreached people group
Consider a short-term trip to India to learn more about the needs of that nation
Consider the Global Pipeline internship, a year-long, after-hours program helping members fall more deeply in love with Jesus, His kingdom, and the Muslim people groups of the world. The internship requires a time commitment of about 12 hours per week and includes Bible study, small group discussions, practice in conversation with Muslims, and an opportunity for interns to consider how they may participate in reaching a people group in India. The internship is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2008, and applications are now available.
